Cultural Arts Committee
HISTORY AND INTRODUCTION TO THE COMMITTEE
The city of Costa Mesa’s motto is the “City of the Arts”, and the Cultural Arts Committee is a group of Council-appointed Costa Mesa residents, movers and shakers, and business leaders, all volunteering to help support and promote the cultural arts in Costa Mesa, from individual artists and small grassroots organizations to Costa Mesa’s larger professional institutions known around the world.
Created as one committee by the City Council, the “Cultural Arts & Historical Resources Committee” were separated in May of 2001 into two, separate Committees, each with nine members.
The Committee has several long and short term goals and objectives relative to its charge of supporting the arts, including: maintaining a youth art display located in the lobby of City Hall, maintaining a database of Costa Mesa amateur as well as professional artists in the Committees “Artists’ Directory”, to give recognition to local artists in the community and promote local artists whenever possible, and the committees long range goal of establishing an art gallery for local artists to display their work.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:45pm at the Costa Mesa City Hall. Meetings are open to the public and individuals interested in the committee are encouraged to attend.
